What are winter dresses?

Winter dresses are exactly what the name suggests, dresses that we wear in winter. They’re a style staple: versatile and easy to dress up or down, whilst also being bold enough to make a statement on their own.

Winter dresses can often come in a variety of colours, but typically deep blues, burgundies, deep greens, greys, and blacks. This isn’t restrictive but darker colours do tend to absorb and retain heat better than others so you might find your darker outfit keeps you warmer than wearing white!

You’ll also find that winter dresses are usually made of thicker materials such as knitwear, wool, corduroy or even velvet or suede to keep us warm. Winter dresses also often feature longer sleeves and sometimes higher necklines.

Who should wear winter dresses?

Winter dresses suit all body shapes and figures, so there isn’t anyone who should avoid trying them on or seeing if this is a style that can work for them. Curvy figures, slim shapes, petite and tall can all wear winter dresses, and style them up in the way they choose.

There are many different styles of winter dresses to choose from including bodycon for a dress to hug your shape, floral winter dresses for a feminine touch and party or occasion winter dresses to make a statement. You can also choose simple colour palettes like black, cream and blue that can be easily paired with the rest of your wardrobe.

When should I wear winter dresses?

Winter dresses are ideal for when the weather drops and gets colder, and when it starts to feel like we should be reaching for tights, jumpers and thick coats to keep warm.

Whilst there is nothing to stop you from wearing a winter dress in summer, they are best suited to colder months from October through until the end of January. As they are typically made of thicker fabrics and darker colours, winter dresses will keep you warm when the temperature drops.

Winter dresses come in various styles including evening dresses, occasion dresses for more formal occasions, or casual winter dresses that are perfect for lazy weekends.

How should I wear winter dresses? What pairs well with winter dresses?

Styling your winter dress is easy, and it can be easily dressed up or down depending on what look you’re going for. Pair your winter dresses with knee high boots and a cardigan for an easy thrown on style or give it more of an edgy style with a faux leather jacket and some chunky biker boots.

You can also make your winter dresses work outside winter, in autumn they can be worn alone with bare legs and then add tights when the temperature gets closer to freezing.

You can also find that winter dresses can be more formal and suited for evening occasions too, especially if you pick darker colours or even consider sequinned or decorative styles.

Equally, if you want to pair yours with your favourite leggings underneath and your go-to trainers, that can be great for a casual look that’s perfect for running errands or having a more relaxed day.
